Like so many people during the many months of being home during the Pandemic, I tried a new DIY project. Cement! I really do love the cool, industrial-feel badassness cement oozes, especially when paired with something warmer like wood or house plants. Oohlala!
So here are some things I came up with using mostly quick drying cement (I’m not very patient so this worked better for me). I don’t have much advice to offer unfortunately as this as this was a quick run, but here are a couple take aways from my experience with cement:
- Cement is V E R Y messy
- Don’t get the kind of cement you have to sift all of those little rocks out of; it’s endless, messy and annoying. Unless of course you want all those rocks to be a part of your finished project, in that case do!
- Recycle/up-cycle. Use what resources you have on hand for containers; i.e. water/soda bottles, take out containers, food containers, etc. The Dollar Store or Savers is also a good option for unique, inexpensive containers. Some projects I’ve done, lead to the the container breaking when removing the dried piece.
- Have fun and be creative! Nothing feels more rewarding then seeing an idea come to life ~ don’t overthink any of it! Dive right in my friend and enjoy the process.
Maybe I’ll do more someday. It was fun.
Here are some of the things I made. Some for myself, some I gave as gifts for family and friends. Handmade is my F A V O R I T E gifts to give and receive. They’re just special.
If you decide to create with cement, I would love you to share!
